I've been animating since the 2D days.
Here are a few critters that I particularly liked

Cueball World - Dodo
A low polygon background creature. This snooker game had a lot of physics going on. There was very little frame time left for incidentals so
the background creatures had to be very low poly and have few bones.
The dodo has 290 polygons and runs eleven animations with looping and branching frame points.
Modelled, rigged and animated in Maya.
I also wrote the behaviour and animation triggering for this creature using an in-house scripting system.
This creature made a reappearance in Pool Paradise (2003) with a bit of a polish and having put on a few polys, (Haven't we all).
